Coping with Dog Travel Sickness

Dog travel sickness can be seriously difficult to deal with and is definitely a road trip killer no matter which CD you are jamming to. Dog travel sickness isn’t always the same for every dog. Some dogs become physically ill and mess up the seats while others become emotionally agitated and even a danger to the driver as they bounce from seat to seat trying to find comfort.

I had decided to seriously research what natural remedies were available for dogs with travel sickness when our friend Cindy decided to drive from Pennsylvania to the Southern tip of Virginia with two of her dogs in tow. We all shared the same devotion to holistic dog treatments but I just didn’t see how she was going to make it in the car for six hours without some puppy tranquilizers for her two dogs.

Bo and Spike were both rescue dogs. Bo had only been in Cindy’s family for a couple of months and Spike had been the little man out who had to dodge the larger dog feet until 5 pound Bo came to join him. Both dogs were mixed breeds and both dogs suffered from some type of dog travel sickness. I was hoping to find one holistic treatment for both dogs even though they both had different symptoms.

Bo absolutely required a seatbelt if you wanted to keep him from leaping about the car like a cat on a hot tin roof. Buckled in he shook, quivered, whined, and howled in this creepy, sad, and desperate kind of way. Spike could be counted on for at least one accident for each end for every hour or two he spent in the car followed by lying down on the car seat shaking with terror every time the car went over a bump.

I had my work cut out for me. For pups with dog travel sickness, these two had it bad enough that I might not be able to find a holistic pet product or a natural remedy that was strong enough to care for their rather extreme symptoms. Holistic treatment for dog travel sickness hasn’t always worked well especially for Spike in the past. His small 8 pound frame and his extraordinarily high level of energy makes him a challenge to soothe when he is wound up tight. Puppy valium just doesn’t seem like a good alternative to natural cures when they are available.

About three weeks before the scheduled trip I had found something that I thought would make Cindy and her boys much happier during their car ride. Cindy did a test run and found that both dogs were able to maintain a much more dignified level of calm throughout their test run. Spike kept all of his natural bodily fluids in his body and even slept peacefully for about an hour on the two hour test run.

Despite the fact that both dogs had different dog travel sickness symptoms the power of holistic treatment proved once again that natural cures are really extraordinary. Both dogs responded well to the holistic pet products without receiving any type of puppy valium.

Their nervous systems were soothed and their digestive tracts were kept calm, yet when they arrived at my house they acted like the same little Bo and Spike that they have always been. No drugged side effects is just one final selling point for treating dog travel sickness through the natural cures that holistic treatment options for pets offers.
