One of the things people often forget to consider about invisible fences is that, while they will - hopefully - contain your dog, they do nothing to prevent other dogs, animals, neighborhood children, etc., from coming on to your property and engaging your dog. While you may feel that your dog is mild tempered enough that this isn't a concern, bear in mind that the intruder (person or animal) may be aggressive or uninformed, which can bring trouble.

In any case, if someone does chose an invisible fence, I recommend never leaving your dog out when you are not home.

I think invisible dog fences are certainly better than keeping your dog on a leash, but the best solution is a strong, high normal fence. If for some reason you can't or don't want to build a regular fence, an invisible one may be a good idea, although it would take the dog some time to get used to.
